What You Need to Know About Covid-19
Dr. Hazel Zuellig is one of our club members. She is a global citizen with part residence in France. The Philippine Ambassador to France, Ma. Theresa Lazaro requested her to create this video. Hazel educates about Covid-19 in Tagalog, the Philippine national language.
What is Covid-19?
The Covid-19 virus creates respiratory issues such as hardness of breath, sinus, fever, and, in more severe cases, pneumonia. Some patients experience diarrhea. 80% of patients experience mild symptoms that only last a few days. These patients can stay home until fully recovered. A small percentage, about 5%, becomes serious with pneumonia. Hospitals will provide proper care. To date, the death rate is 1-2%, mostly among the elderly with pre-existing conditions like hypertension, diabetes, and cardiovascular diseases.
How does it spread?
Transmission is through droplets when people cough or sneeze. The best precaution is frequent and thorough handwashing with soap and water. Applying alcohol and hand sanitizers works as well.
What can you do?
If you experience any symptoms of Covid-19, isolate yourself at home. Practice social distancing of at least 6 feet away. Most people do not need testing for the virus. Rest and recover at home for at least 14 days. By doing this, you help curtail the transmission to other people. Many cities and towns around the world are in a "lock-down," which prevents the spread of the virus. Although these are unprecedented measures, they are necessary for our communities to stay safe and healthy. The best precaution is to stay at home, get enough sleep, and rest. Remember to eat healthily. These are the best ways to keep our immunity systems resilient and our communities healthy. Most importantly, let's pray, so this challenge will soon be behind us. God bless!
